The biggest lie you’ve ever been told: you need motivation to succeed!
Do you know those moments when you feel stuck? You have big dreams and clear goals, but something is missing. You’re waiting for that one moment, that push that pulls you out of standstill and finally gets you moving – motivation. We’ve all waited for it and told ourselves it will be easier once we feel that spark. But let me tell you something: motivation is a lie.
Many people believe motivation is the driving force behind success. But what happens if the spark never comes? If you stand at the threshold and just can’t start because you’re waiting for something that may never appear? That’s the point where most people fail.
Discipline beats motivation – the real key to success
In recent years, especially after my serious illness, I learned a truth nobody had told me before: success doesn’t come from motivation. Success comes from discipline.
Discipline is the ability to take action even when you don’t feel like it. It means getting up and carrying on, even when you’re tired, in pain or the spark is missing. That was the lesson I had to learn after my time in hospital. After the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus, I felt drained, as if my body and mind wanted to give up. But I knew I couldn’t afford to wait for motivation. The rent wouldn’t pay itself, and the challenges wouldn’t simply disappear.
The power of discipline: my personal game changer
So instead of hoping for a burst of motivation to get me out of my hole, I chose something else: discipline. Every day, even when it seemed impossible, I got up, put on my sports clothes and did something – no matter how small. At first I could only train for a few minutes, but it wasn’t the amount that counted, it was the consistency.
No matter how bad I felt, I stuck to my routines. Every day I learned something new, even when my head hurt and words came hard. This discipline, the routine, the constant doing – that’s what brought me back. It wasn’t motivation that helped me, it was the decision to act anyway.
Ask yourself: are you waiting for motivation?
I want you to ask yourself a question right now: How often have you not done something because you weren’t motivated? How often have you got up, looked at your to-do list and thought: “Not today, I’ll wait until I feel like it”?
The problem with this mindset is that you may have to wait a very long time. Days, weeks, sometimes months pass, and you don’t move a single step forward. You lose time, opportunities and ultimately trust in yourself.
Why discipline is the game changer
There’s a difference between those who reach their dreams and those who don’t. It isn’t motivation. It’s the ability to act even when it’s missing. Most people don’t fail because they lack talent or great ideas. They fail because they wait for that magical moment of motivation – and don’t realise they don’t need it.
Discipline means showing up every day, even when you don’t feel like it. It means taking the first step even when the mountain in front of you seems unreachable. And when you take that first step, you set off a chain that changes everything. Once you act, the next step follows – and suddenly you realise the path is much shorter than it looked from afar.
My journey with discipline: the fight after hospital
When I was discharged from hospital, I was far from the person I had been. The virus had attacked not only my body but also my mind. Everything that used to be easy was now a challenge. But instead of hoping for a magical moment of motivation, I decided to take one small step every day – and that step was often painful and hard.
But it was exactly those small steps that brought me back. Not big breakthroughs or sudden revelations, but the small, disciplined actions I took day after day. It wasn’t glamorous, it wasn’t easy, but it worked.
Be your own hero: take control
The truth is, your future is in your hands. You can choose whether to wait – for motivation, the spark, the perfect opportunity – or to act. And acting doesn’t always require big leaps. Sometimes one small step is enough to get the ball rolling.
Imagine what your life could look like if you no longer depended on motivation. Imagine how many goals you could reach if you took control of your discipline. Most people see discipline as a constraint, but in truth it’s the greatest freedom you can give yourself.
Don’t wait for motivation – act now and discover what you are really capable of.
